Artist Statment

Artist Statement

As a painter and printmaker, my journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in Painting & Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, where I honed my skills and developed a deep appreciation for the visual arts. My educational path continued with a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education from the same institution, allowing me to merge my passion for creating art with the joy of teaching.

My work has been recognized in various publications, including the Richmond Times Dispatch, and my mural was featured in the February 2020 issue of Style & Culture. Over the years, I have painted numerous commissions, ranging from intimate animal and family portraits to expansive murals in restaurants and children's bedrooms. Each piece is a testament to my dedication to capturing the essence and emotion of my subjects.

In 2014, I was honored to win third place in the Artist as Educators art show, and I have actively participated in juried exhibitions at Art Space (Small Works) and the Virginia Beach Cultural Arts Center (2021) These experiences have enriched my artistic practice and allowed me to connect with a broader audience.

My artistic style primarily focuses on figurative works and natural abstractions, incorporating symbolism and personally relevant narratives. I enjoy working with a variety of mediums, including oil, acrylic, pastel, and color pencil. Additionally, I continue to experiment with different materials, stretching outside of my comfort zone into ceramic sculptures.

Through my art, I strive to evoke a sense of wonder and connection, inviting viewers to explore the stories and emotions embedded within each piece. My work is a celebration of life, capturing moments of beauty and significance that resonate with both the heart and mind.
